What do the banks want to know regarding mortgages

Apart from the usual need to prove your identity, always needed to set up an account with a bank that does not know you, basically what they SHOULD be looking for is evidence that you can afford the repayments and that you are putting in a reasonable stake yourself. That would include evidence of a stable and regular income and that you are living within your means. Your bank statements should go a long way towards this. Good luck.

your earnings ,outgoings,i.d,take your gas bill/elictric bill, anything else you pay,it WILL help if you can show things you have had on credit in the past and payed on time.if you are behind on any payments of credit this will affect your credit rating,so clear them if you can
pay off your credit card before going to the bank and take the credit card statement with you.

Your best bet is to go to a Financial Advisor/broker as they can find u the best deal on the market, plus it saves u traipsing in & out of all the different banks. A bank can only advise u on their own products, which may not be as competitive.

You should take with u : driving licence & passport, latest 3 months' bank statements, latest 3 months' payslips & latest P60, & proof of deposit. Each lender is different & may want to see more than another, or less. Oh & if u r actually applying for a mortgage then - cheque book for any upfront fees (valuation etc)

and u will need to know how much u have owing on credit cards, & loans etc, & how much u pay towards them each month.

Normally proof of ID - passport or drivers licence
If it is the bank where you bank you wont need statements but if not you will need the last 3 months
3 months wage slips
P60

You should not need credit card statements just an idea of any balances or loans.
